Who we are
APRS Nets is published by AxelStack LLC, the makers of APRS Connect. Using this website means accepting what is below.
How we handle information is in the Privacy Policy.
An independent site
Each net's page is set up by a person with an account here, most often one of the people who run that net. They choose its name, its rules and what its page says.
A person who sets up a page for a net they do not run must say so on it. The site is not run by the operator of any group-messaging server or by any amateur radio organisation, and AxelStack LLC does not speak for them or for any net shown here.
Amateur radio licensing is on you
A net's page says what to send to check in. Sending it is yours to do, under your own licence.
APRS operates on amateur radio spectrum. Transmitting on it requires a valid amateur radio licence and compliance with the rules of the regulator wherever you are transmitting from. Every country has one, they do not agree with each other, and knowing which rules apply to you is part of holding the licence.
You are solely responsible for holding it, for using a callsign you are entitled to use, for observing the band plan and the privileges that apply where you are, and for everything you transmit. The site will not check any of this for you.
Not for safety-critical use
Do not rely on APRS Nets for emergencies, navigation, or any situation where a missed, delayed or wrong entry would cause harm.
APRS is a best-effort radio protocol on shared spectrum; messages are lost routinely and delivery is never guaranteed. A check-in that no gateway heard never reaches the site. Carry a real safety plan that does not involve this site.
Not while you are driving
A live page and a map invite you to look at a phone. Do not do it at the wheel. Reading or operating a phone while driving is dangerous, and in most places it is against the law.
Stop somewhere safe before you read the site or send a check-in.
Everything you send is public
APRS carries no encryption, and encrypting amateur radio traffic is generally prohibited. Assume every message, position, and beacon you send is permanently readable by anyone, and that a net's page here may show it. Do not send anything you would not publish.
The site only listens. It never transmits.
Counts
A net's count is the site's reading of what it heard, under the rules its net control chose. It is not an official record.
Accounts
An account is for one person. Keep its password to yourself, and tell us if someone else has used it.
We may disable an account that is misused.
Running a net here
Set up only a net you run, or say on its page that you do not run it. Do not pass yourself off as a net's organisers.
Write nothing unlawful, abusive or misleading on its page.
What you add by hand or import must be what was really sent or said. Do not add a callsign to a roster that did not check in. Import only traffic you are allowed to use.
You are responsible for what you write, add and import. We may pause or remove a net's page that breaks these terms.
Acceptable use
Do not use APRS Nets to break the law or your licence conditions, to interfere with other operators, or to harass anyone.
Do not overload the site with automated requests. For data in bulk, write to support@aprsconnect.com.
The site as it is
Everything shown comes from others: the operators who transmitted, the gateways and servers that relayed, and the people who set each net up. It may be incomplete or wrong.
APRS Nets is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, AxelStack LLC is not liable for any loss arising from your use of it.
Young software especially: it will have bugs, and it may lose data.
No charge
The site is free to use. Nothing is sold here, and it carries no advertising from anyone else.
It does point to APRS Connect, our own app. APRS Connect is separate, with its own terms and its own privacy policy.
Your rights as a consumer
Nothing in these terms takes away a right your own consumer law gives you. Where the two disagree, your law wins, and we are not going to argue about it. Whatever your law gives you, you have it, whether or not it is written here.
In particular, the part above about the site being provided "as is" applies only as far as the law where you live permits, which in a good many countries is not very far at all.
If you would normally take a complaint like this to a consumer authority or an ombudsman where you live, that route is open to you.
Which law applies
Wherever these terms are governed, if you are a consumer you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in your own local courts.
Choosing a law for the contract is not an attempt to move your dispute somewhere inconvenient, and it cannot take that protection away from you.
