Privacy Policy

This Policy explains how AxelStack LLC ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with this website, APRS Nets (the "site").
Who is responsible. AxelStack LLC is the data controller for the information described here, which some laws call the responsable. The address for privacy requests is under Contact us.
Where your data goes. We are a United States company, and the servers the site runs on are run by us in the United States. Wherever in the world you use the site from, that is where information about your use of it is held. Your rights over it are the same wherever you live.
What the site does. It listens to APRS, a public radio network, and keeps a page for each net set up here.
Information we collect
APRS messages for a net. For each net set up here, the site stores the APRS messages meant for that net and the answers a server or a bot sent to them. That is the callsign with its SSID, the words, when it arrived, the path it took, the gateway (an IGate) that heard it, and the app or radio it was sent from.
Positions. The site listens to the position beacons stations send over APRS. For a station that has checked in to a net, it stores them, each with the symbol and the comment it was sent with.
A page for each station. From these the site keeps a page for each callsign on a net: when it was first heard, its check-ins and sessions, its messages, the app or radio it sends from, the country of its callsign, and its last known place.
What net control adds. The people who run a net (net control) can add an operator to a session by hand, with what the operator said, and remove one from a session's roster. They can import APRS traffic that they paste or upload into their own net.
Check-in confirmations. A net's owners can ask the site to send each operator the net counts one message over APRS that says so. When one is sent, the site stores the callsign it went to, the net and the time. Like all APRS traffic, that message is public.
A net's page. A net's name, description, links, notes and rules are written by whoever set its page up, most often the people who run the net. They are public once the net is published.
Your account, if you run a net. Reading the site needs no account. An account is only for a person who runs a net. We store your name, your email address, your callsign if you give one, a hash of your password (never the password itself), which nets you help run, and when the account was made and last signed in.
Invitations. We can invite you by email to make your account yourself. We store the email address the invitation goes to, who sent it and when, whether it was used, and the net it is for when it names one. An invitation that names a net puts your account on that net when you make it, and until then the net's owners see the address it went to.
Sign-ins and changes. The site records sign-ins, sign-outs and refused sign-ins, with the time, what was typed as the email address and the IP address it came from. It records what each account changed on a net, with the name and email address of the account.
Server logs. The web server and the site itself keep logs. They hold the IP address a request came from, the page asked for, the time and the browser type, and the email address typed at a sign-in or belonging to an account that was made or changed. Logs are kept to run and secure the site.
Usage information. See Analytics.
Your location
If you press the location button on a map, your browser asks you first. Your position is then drawn on your own screen. It is not sent to us.
There is one exception, for a person who runs a net. On the form where a net's area is set, the same button can set the centre of that area, which is saved with the net and is part of the net's public rules once the net is published.
Analytics
We use Matomo, an analytics tool we host ourselves, to understand how the site is used, find problems, and improve it. Because we host it, this usage data is not sold or handed to third-party advertising networks.
What it records. The pages viewed and their titles, how long each was open, the links to other sites that were followed, the site a visit came from, the approximate country and the kind of device. Your IP address is shortened before it is stored.
Having past visits removed. Write to support@aprsconnect.com. Tell us roughly when you visited, and we will do our best to find the records and delete them.
Cookies
The page cookie. Reading a page sets one cookie the site needs. It holds a random name for your browser and nothing about you, and it ends when you close your browser.
Analytics cookies. Matomo sets first-party cookies of its own. The longest is kept for up to thirteen months. They are not shared with anyone and do not follow you to other sites. You can block or delete them in your browser, and every public page works the same without them.
Cookies the site needs. The sign-in page and the pages behind it set the cookies they need to work: one that keeps you signed in, an anti-forgery token that guards the forms you send, and a short-lived one that carries the result message after you send a form. The sign-in cookie lasts up to 30 days and is renewed while you use the site.
The language cookie. Choosing a language at the foot of a page sets one cookie that holds that choice, for a year.
There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies here at all.
Your browser's own storage. A page may keep a small note in your browser, such as a view you chose or how far you had scrolled. It is not sent to us.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the site.
- Show each net who checked in, what was said, and where its stations are.
- Sign you in, and reach you about your account or a net you run.
- Diagnose failures, and understand which pages are used.
- Protect the site against abuse and security threats.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
APRS traffic is public
APRS is an open, unencrypted radio protocol. Anything you transmit, whether messages, positions, beacons or status, can be received by anyone in range, and is typically archived indefinitely by public internet gateways such as aprs.fi, which are operated by third parties and outside our control.
No website can change this. Treat everything you send over APRS as permanently public.
What a net's pages show. Who checked in, what they said, when, how the message arrived and, where the station sent one, a position. The pages of a published net can be found through search engines.
Other sites. A station's page links to outside sites such as QRZ, aprs.fi and aprs.to. Opening one sends that callsign to them in the web address, the same as typing it there yourself. Their handling of that data is governed by their own policies, not this one.
Having something removed
To have a message, a station or a net's page removed from this site, write to support@aprsconnect.com with the callsign or the net's name.
Net control can remove an operator from a session's roster. That takes the callsign off the roster and leaves the messages. To have the messages removed too, write to us.
A removal takes out what the site holds at that time. A station that checks in to a net here again after that is stored and shown again.
Removing something here does not remove it from the APRS network, or from other sites that keep APRS traffic.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- Publicly, for what stations sent over APRS and for what was written on a net's page (see APRS traffic is public).
- With the people you run a net with. They see your name, your callsign and what you changed on that net, and the net's owners see your email address.
- With service providers who help us operate the site (for example hosting), under obligations to protect it.
- For legal reasons, where we believe disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or the public.
- In a business transfer, if the site is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
How long we keep it
A net's messages, positions and station pages are kept for as long as the net has a page here, or until we are asked to remove them. There is no set time after which they are deleted.
An invitation has no set time after which its record is deleted. You can ask us to delete yours.
An account is kept until you ask us to delete it: write to support@aprsconnect.com.
Records of sign-ins and of changes to a net have no set time after which they are deleted. You can ask us to delete yours.
Server logs are kept to run and secure the site. This Policy does not set a time after which they are deleted.
Analytics. The longest analytics cookie is kept for up to thirteen months. You can ask us to delete the records of past visits.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information we hold, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. APRS traffic in particular is transmitted in the clear by design.
Your choices
There is no mailing list. We write to an account's email address only about the account or a net it helps run.
You can read every public page without an account. You can block cookies in your browser, and the public pages work the same. The maps work without your location.
What you send over APRS is yours to choose. A station that sends no position is on a net's list and not on its map.
Children's privacy
The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Where the law that covers you sets a higher minimum age for agreeing to this kind of processing, that age applies instead of 13.
If you believe a child has given us information, write to us at support@aprsconnect.com and we will delete it.
The site cannot tell the age of the operator behind a callsign. What a licensed operator of any age sends over APRS is public, and a net's page shows it like any other station's. To have it removed, write to the same address.
Your rights over your information
These are yours wherever you live. Some countries grant them by law and some do not; rather than work out which one you are in, we give everybody the same set. You can ask us to:
- Tell you what we hold about you, and why.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete it.
- Hand it over in a form you can take elsewhere.
- Stop or limit a particular use of it, or object to that use.
- Withdraw a permission you gave us, which does not undo what was done while it stood.
Those first four are known in some places as ARCO rights, and this Policy is also meant to serve as the formal privacy notice that some countries require, called the aviso de privacidad in some of them.
How to ask. Write to support@aprsconnect.com. We do not charge for this and we will not make you create an account to ask. It helps if you tell us the callsign, the net or the account's email address your request is about. We answer as quickly as we can, and always within any deadline your law sets.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Where the law that covers you asks us to name a basis for each use, these are ours:
- Performing the service you asked for: keeping your account, signing you in, and keeping the page of a net you set up.
- Our legitimate interests: showing each net what was sent to it in public, keeping the site secure, and counting visits. What a net's page shows was already public, and you can ask us to remove it.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or disclose something.
Where your data is held
We are a United States company and the data described here is held on servers we operate in the United States. We are not handing it to a separate company abroad; we are the ones holding it, and the law where you live applies to us because we offer the site to people there.
The protections we apply are the ones under Security, and the rights above are yours regardless of where the servers are.
If you think we have got it wrong
Please tell us first. Most things are a misunderstanding and we would rather fix it than argue about it.
But you do not have to go through us: if there is a data protection authority or privacy regulator where you live, you can complain to them directly, and nothing here asks you to wait.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. The date at the top changes with it.
